Client Background

IID Architects won a competition to work with Bromley High Junior School in February 2018, leading them to design the extension and refurbishment of the building, which included multiple new specialist teaching rooms in Phase 1, and a refreshed visitor entrance and reception area.  The brief specified a contemporary space with plenty of natural light and a welcoming entrance.

Inspired by a CPD

Originally inspired by a CPD held with our most experienced Urban Environment Consultant, Steve McIntyre, IID Architects got in touch as they went through the initial stages of design which allowed us to work together to come up with the best solution.

North-facing

The main purpose was to green the space around the visitor entrance, which would otherwise be dominated by a large windowless brick wall.  A north facing façade, this was a shady area and a challenge to make look welcoming.  We worked on a living wall design that was simple in colour yet with a sophisticated textured finish, full of shade-loving plant species that would flourish in the specific elevation.

The beautiful living facade works perfectly with the biophilic-focused design of the building which focuses on open spaces and access to plenty of natural light.
